The yearlong slump in Missouri’s gaming industry continued in January. Statewide, casino revenue fell 7.2 percent.

Revenue at the four Missouri casinos in the St. Louis area dropped 8.4 percent, to $62.4 million. Missouri casinos in the Kansas City area had $44.9 million in revenue, a drop of 6.7 percent.

Winter storms typically affect casino revenue, and last month was no exception. Revenue at St. Louis-area gambling halls, which includes the Metro East, was 9.2 percent lower last month than in January 2013, regulators reported. In December, revenue had dropped 9.9 percent.

Union Gaming Research, an industry analyst, said that revenue at the four Isle of Capri casinos in Missouri fell 5.2 percent. Creve Coeur-based Isle’s newest casino, in Cape Girardeau, experienced a 5.3 percent revenue decline, to $4.6 million. January declines in gaming revenue are largely a continuation of the weakness observed late last year, Union Gaming Research said.
